Been a busy bee building habits to support my physical (and mental, overall!) health this year (2024). In this episode (and the next several to follow) I'll be sharing reframes, tips, and tricks that have helped me get into motion after years of "knowing" but not doing the things that once felt intimidating or too hard.
I'll also share resources and pros that have been helpful to me in all the areas - hormones and nutrition, skincare, even pelvic floor health! Stay TUNED. 🍿
And in the meantime, to close the gap between your new (rookie) habit and the seasoned vets you've already established, ask yourself:
What are the habits I've already baked into my life? What's automated and WHY? What are the benefits I get from doing these things regularly? What general categories do I have on lock? (ex. health, caregiving, home care, social connection, delivering for clients, a specific hobby or ritual)
How does [new habit] actually get me MORE of those benefits? How is it actually in the same category (even if on the surface it may not seem so)?
To see it differently, change the light. Use the HALO of the existing habits. Put the rookie habit in seasoned habit's clothing. A clever disguise. Rebrand it like it's all the same thing.
Ex. I've been prioritizing movement, working on my sleep, taking whole food supplements, my skincare and red light masks, blah blee blah... it's clear my physical well-being is my focus right now.
The NEW (old) habit I've wanted to re-establish is THIS. Recording my field notes to share with you here via this podcast.
What finally clicked and helped me dissolve the resistance around it was to reframe recording and publishing as physical self care.
How?
I feel sparky and alive when recording and connecting with you (whether you reply or not, when I publish, at least there's a chance!). I know communicating and sharing how I see the world (in Nikkified #onherterms mixed metaphor fashion) is part of why I'm here on this timeline. << Been watching Loki Season 2, also ;)
Following through and sharing ideas I've been hoarding over here helps me feel energized, closes a mental loop, which helps me be more present and energized when I pick up my kids from school, and helps me feel more fulfilled when my head hits the pillow at night. Knock on benefits for my sleep quality, which helps my energy the NEXT day, and so the cycle continues.
Get what I'm saying? Use the halo from your existing habits. Shine it on this new one to see it in a new light and see what shifts.

Hi! 👋 I'm Nikki.
...Elledge Brown.
Creator of the On Her Terms® universe.
Pro word nerd and mom of three.
I'm a creative advisor, coach, and strategist for entrepreneurial women who love their work, their families, and their alone time.
I'm also a military spouse and former park ranger and college professor with a penchant for almost excessive verbal processing. (You've prob picked up on that by now.)
After over a decade in business and momming, moving from my fave Hawaiian island to my fave Texas town, reckoning with and recovering from my own brand of #onherterms burnout, I've been deep in introspection + experimentation over here:
Got it. Not a dress rehearsal. What do I really want my life to look like? What do I want it to feel like? In each area of life, what are my terms for this season? When I get really honest and ditch the should dos and the have tos…what's left? What’s true? NOW WHAT?
This podcast is a space to track that journey, to share my field notes, to anchor in the stories and lessons my clients and I are learning along the way.
Join me here to refresh your OWN definitions of what matters most to you. Motherhood, ambition, fulfillment, creativity, relationships, inspiration, REST, success, community, and about a squillion other words and concepts that deserve thoughtful consideration.
Can't wait to hear your take.
